STAND FOR THE PLANET

At Diesel, we’ve never been afraid to take a stand, even when it means holding ourselves to account and rethinking how we operate as a business. The climate crisis requires urgent action, and we are prepared to make the changes we know we need to make to help limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. In 2020, we joined The Fashion Pact, publicly affirming our commitment to reach net-zero GHG emissions in our direct operations by 2030 and across our wider supply chain by 2050. We are working to reduce our impact in everything we do, from the products we make to the running of our offices and stores.

Protecting our planet is a common objective that unites us all, and now more than ever is the time to act.

DIESEL STEPS TOWARDS NET-ZERO

Our commitment to net-zero is more than just words. In 2020, we partnered with an external organization to measure our baseline carbon footprint and in 2021 we established our Climate Plan, our roadmap to achieving our net-zero goals. To help implement our Plan we have been rolling out internal engagement initiatives, so that every Diesel team member understands how they can contribute to a more sustainable future. From our buildings to the products we sell, we are taking tangible actions to reduce our energy, water and waste footprints and our overall carbon impact. As we committed to fight climate change, the OTB Group, of which Diesel is part, have responded to the call to action of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), sending a commitment letter in 2021 to define targets in line with the “1.5°C scenario”. In 2023, our reduction targets have been validated. Read more on our SBTi commitment at the link.

ENERGY

null

100% of Diesel's headquarter electricity comes from renewable sources, part of it coming from our own photovoltaic systems. In 2024, another PV system has been installed allowing us to triple the power of the plant.

Our green roofs and low impact design features have helped Diesel Headquarters achieve an A rating on our Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). We are now measuring and setting targets to improve energy performance and reduce emissions across all our office and store locations worldwide. As of 2023, at European level we reached the 88% of energy purchased coming from renewable energy sources, while in Italy it reached the 97% in relation to direct operations.

Additionally, in the last year Diesel New York Soho retail and Diesel Milan Showroom achieved the LEED for Interior Design Gold certification.

WATER

null

From growing fibres to dying fabric, fashion is dependent on water. But as a precious and depleting resource we are committed to using water responsibly, and what better way to reduce our water consumption than making use of those rainy days? At Diesel Headquater we have implemented a system that collects rainwater used in HQ irrigation and sanitary water systems, that allowed us to save 20.000 litres of water per year. However, we know the biggest savings we can make is through the materials and treatments we use. Read more about how we are reducing water in the making of our products.

WASTE

null

We are committed to reducing plastic across our business, starting at our Headquarter and offices which we want to be plastic free zones. In 2019, OTB Group launched a campaign in collaboration with 24Bottles to “Remove Plastic from Water by Removing Water from Plastic”. Since then, we have removed single-use plastic bottles, added more water fountains and provided every Diesel employee with a stainless steel refillable Clima Bottle, by 24Bottles. These seemingly small actions have had a significant impact, removing 130,000 plastic bottles from our business each year.

We are also committed to eliminating all single-use virgin plastic from our packaging by 2025.

Besides plastic, we are also committed to reduce and recycle all types of waste and, with this in mind, in 2023 we recovered 53% of waste generated.

Additionally, through a collaboration with the OTB Foundation, the OTB Group is also working on reducing food waste generated in the internal canteen.

OUR PRODUCTS

Our biggest impact comes from the products we make, which is why we have been transforming the way we design, source and innovate over the past few years. Read more about how we are creating low impact and circular products in Be the Alternative.

PARTNERSHIPS

A JOURNEY TO MAKE TOGETHER

The road to net-zero requires radical transformation and the collective action of our suppliers, partners and peers. We are proud to partner with the following organisations who are driving change across the industry and helping us on our journey.

Better Cotton™

In 2020 Diesel became members of Better Cotton™. Better Cotton™’s mission is to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment. By buying cotton products from Diesel, customers are supporting responsible cotton production through Better Cotton™. Better Cotton™ farmers receive training on how to use water efficiently, care for the health of the soil and natural habitats, reduce use of the most harmful chemicals and respect workers’ rights and wellbeing. Better Cotton™ is sourced via a chain of custody model called mass balance. This means that Better Cotton™ is not physically traceable to end products, however, Better Cotton™ Farmers benefit from the demand for Better Cotton™ in equivalent volumes to those we ‘source.’

ZDHC Roadmap To Zero

Creating our iconic Diesel distressed look has traditionally used treatments that are intensive in water and chemical use. We are proud to be part of the ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemical) initiative, which included the MRSL(Manufacturing Restricted Substances List). ZDHC's Roadmap to Zero Programme leads the fashion industry to eliminate harmful chemicals from its global supply chain by building the foundation for more sustainable manufacturing to protect workers, consumers and our planet’s ecosystems.

THE FASHION PACT

The Fashion Pact is a global coalition of companies in the fashion and textile industry (ready-to- wear, sport, lifestyle and luxury) including their suppliers and distributors, all committed to a common core of key environmental goals in three areas: stopping global warming, restoring biodiversity and protecting the oceans. Launched as a mission given to Kering Chairman and CEO, François-Henri Pinault by French President, Emmanuel Macron, the Fashion Pact was presented to Heads of State at the G7 Summit in Biarritz. Additionally, since 2023, Diesel has also joined The Fashion Pact's “Unlock Platform” project to set up a collective sourcing platform that helps farmers make the transition to lower-impact cotton.
